Q: Is Yoo-Hoo a carbonated beverage?
Yoo-hoo is not a carbonated beverage. It comes in a bottle, can, or drink box. Upon opening one of these containers, there is no carbonation or fizz associated with the drink. Instead, you obtain a smooth chocolaty flavor similar to chocolate milk.
Keep in mind that Yoo-Hoo is not really chocolate milk. If you read the product label it defines this beverage as a “chocolate drink” and not chocolate milk. If you look at the first few ingredients of a Yoo-Hoo, you will see why it is not chocolate milk. These ingredients are water, high fructose corn syrup, whey (from milk), and less than 2% cocoa. True chocolate milk will have milk listed as the first ingredient not water like a Yoo-Hoo.
Consider making a Bronx Egg Cream if you are looking for a carbonated chocolate drink. Ironically, this drink does not have egg or cream but the Bronx origin may be true. To make the drink, stir together two tablespoons of chocolate syrup with 2/3 cup milk and 1/3 cup seltzer water. Use Ubet or Bosco chocolate syrup to keep the drink authentic to the New York recipe. Enjoy!
