Rocky Road features chocolate ice cream with almonds and marshmallow pieces mixed into it. Dreyer’s Ice Cream founder, William Dreyer, is believed to have invented this flavor in Oakland California in 1929 along with candy maker Joseph Edy.

Another theory is that Rocky Road was invented at Fentons Creamery in 1929 when a candy maker employee mixed in a marshmallow and nut candy bar into ice cream.

Today, there are numerous brands that make Rocky Road with Dreyer’s/Edy’s being one of the premier brands. They make Original Rocky Road along with a collection of other Rocky Road inspired flavors like Cookie Cobblestone and Salted Caramel Pretzel Path.
